Like many other baleen whales, the Fin Whale typically skims near the surface to feed on plankton. Fin Whales sometimes dive, for periods of 15 minutes or so. They also occasionally breach, propelling most of their large body out of the water. Only rarely will a Fin Whale show its flukes above water.
